Why I Want to Uplift Others

Chantal Gaillardetz

Lifting others up isn’t just an action for me—it’s a part of who I am. It's ingrained in me, not for recognition or applause, but because I understand the impact a kind word, a bit of encouragement, or simply showing up can have. The world is heavy enough as it is, and if I can make even one person’s day a little lighter, then that’s exactly what I want to do.

I Know What It Feels Like to Struggle in Silence

There were times in my past when I felt unseen, like my emotions were too much or too little for anyone to notice. I carried the weight of my own thoughts, wondering if anyone truly understood. It’s not easy to sit with feelings that seem too heavy to share. That’s why I want to remind others that they’re not alone. No one should feel like they have to face everything on their own.

Sometimes, all it takes is knowing that someone cares. Even if they can’t fix the situation or take away the pain, having someone acknowledge what you’re going through can make all the difference. I’ve been in that place where I needed to hear, I see you. I hear you. You matter. And now, I want to be that person for others.

Small Acts of Kindness Make a Bigger Impact Than We Realize

I’ve experienced moments where a simple, thoughtful gesture shifted everything. A reassuring word, an unexpected check-in, or even a quiet presence can mean the world to someone. It doesn’t take much to make a difference, and sometimes, the smallest things hold the most weight.

We often think that helping someone requires grand gestures, but the truth is, most people just want to feel noticed. A compliment, a thoughtful message, or even remembering something they said in passing—these things stick with people. They remind us that we matter. And when we realize how much impact even a small moment of kindness can have, we begin to see just how powerful uplifting others truly is.

I Want to Be the Person I Once Needed

Looking back, there were moments when I wished someone had told me that I mattered—that my feelings were valid, that I wasn’t as alone as I believed. I can’t change the past, but I can take what I’ve learned and offer that reassurance to others. If my words can give someone a sense of comfort, then I know I’m doing something meaningful.

Lifting Others Lifts Me, Too

Encouraging others reminds me of the good in the world, even on days when it’s hard to see. It creates a ripple effect. When we pour kindness into others, we also fill our own hearts in ways we may not expect.

I don’t uplift others because I have everything figured out. I do it because I understand. I understand what it’s like to doubt yourself, to feel like you’re not enough, to question your worth. And if I can help even one person see themselves through a softer, kinder lens, then I know I’m walking the right path.

The World Can Be Heavy, But We Can Lighten It for Each Other

Life isn’t always easy. People carry burdens they don’t always talk about. If I can offer even a little bit of light in someone’s day, that’s enough for me. We all need reminders that we’re valued, and if I can be that reminder for someone, then that’s exactly what I want to do.

Maybe the world will never know my name. Maybe I’ll never see the full impact of the kindness I give. But that doesn’t matter. What matters is that somewhere, even for just a moment, someone feels a little less alone, a little more hopeful, and a little more seen because I chose to lift them up.

And to me, that’s everything.

Small acts of kindness can certainly uplift someones day as well as your own day by being thoughtful of others.

It certainly doesn’t take much for our world to be a better place. More that think like you would make better communities and happier people. Thank you for sharing!
