The Little Things About Motherhood I Never Want to Forget

There are so many things about motherhood that I want to remember. Of course, I'll remember the big milestones, the firsts, and all the moments we'll take pictures of to look back on one day. But, I've been thinking about the little things too. The things that might seem ordinary now but will someday be memories I wish I could step back into, even just for a moment.

One day, the things that are part of our everyday life will be memories and I want to remember as much of our little boy as I can.

The Way He Looks at Me

I never want to forget the way Elliott looks at me. The way his eyes find mine when I'm talking to him, the expressions he makes, and those big smiles that appear so easily throughout the day. He smiles so much and I'll never get tired of seeing it. All it takes is a little interaction, a few words, or spending time together for his face to light up. I especially love the moments when he looks at me and papa (daddy) while we're talking.

I could never get tired of seeing his eyes looking back at me. I'll always treasure the way he looks at me. It's such a simple thing, but it's one of those moments I never want to forget.

The Sounds That Fill Our Days

If there's one thing I want to remember about this stage, it's the little sounds Elliott makes.

His coos, those sweet little "ahh" sounds, and the way he babbles as if he's telling me the most important story in the world. He'll make one little sound, and I'll answer him. Then he'll make another, and before you know it, we're having what feels like a whole conversation, even though neither of us understands a word of it.

I love these moments. I'll talk to him, listen to his little responses, and find myself smiling because he seems so involved in our conversation.

And then there are his excited noises.

When something catches his attention or someone starts playing with him, he can get so excited. Those little high-pitched squeals, the happy sounds, and his giggles make it impossible not to smile along with him. Sometimes, I find myself laughing simply because he's so happy about whatever is happening in front of him.

One day, these little coos and squeals will turn into words, questions, stories, and conversations. I'll get to hear him tell me about his day, explain things he's interested in, and share all the thoughts that fill his little mind. I can't wait for that. But I also know I'll miss these early sounds. Right now, this is his little voice and I want to remember it exactly as it it.

Our Ordinary Days at Home

Some of my favourite moments with Elliott happen right here at home.

The cuddles, playtime, routines, and the moments when I stop what I'm doing just to look at him for a while. We don't need to go somewhere or do something special to make a day meaningful.

Sometimes, we're simply spending time together, playing, looking at things, or reading to him. Those simple parts of our day become memories I know I'll treasure.

I love watching Elliott when he's playing. When someone interacts with him, he gets so excited, and it's the sweetest thing to see. His little arms start waving, his legs kick away, and he smiles as though playing together is the best thing in the world.

I love seeing how interested he is in his toys, how he reaches out to grab something that catches his attention, and how he explores things with his little hands. He enjoys looking at books and toys, and I find it so sweet watching him take everything in. Even something as simple as giving him a toy to look at can turn into a little moment of discovery.

And now that he's rolling over, he's finding new ways to move and explore. It's exciting to watch him figure out what his body can do. I love seeing these new skills become part of his everyday life, knowing that each one represents another little step in his development.

These are the kinds of things that fill our days.

I get to see these changes as they happen, notice the little details, and watch him become more interested in the world around him. That's one of the most beautiful parts of being his mom.

These ordinary days are becoming some of my most treasured memories.

The Way He Keeps Growing

Sometimes, I genuinely wonder where the time has gone. It feels like I was just getting ready to meet him, imagining what life would be like once he was here. And now, here he is, growing and changing right in front of me.

Every new milestone makes me proud. I love watching him learn new things, discover what his little body can do, and show us more of his personality. I love seeing his excitement when he figures something out and realizing that every day brings something new. Even the smallest changes make me proud.

There's so much happening at this age, and I feel lucky that I get to see it up close.

I also understand why people say it goes by so quickly.

It's not that I don't want him to grow. I do. I look forward to all the things we'll experience together, the things he'll learn, the conversations we'll have, and the person he'll become.

I just wish I could slow things down sometimes.

I love watching him grow and I look forward to every new milestone that comes our way. Every stage brings something special, and I'm so grateful I get to experience each one with him. But sometimes, I wish I could pause time for a little while, not because I'm not excited for what's ahead, but because he's growing so quickly and these little moments mean so much to me.

I know there are so many beautiful memories waiting for us, and I can't wait to make them with him.

The Little Things I'll Miss

I know there will be days when I look back and wish I could experience this season again.

I'll miss how little he is in my arms, how easily he fits against me, and how his tiny hands reach for me. I'll miss the way he looks at the world with so much curiosity and how the smallest things can capture his attention.

I'll miss the way our days are shaped around his needs, and all the little things that make this stage of motherhood what it is. I'll even miss things that feel completely normal, things I haven't thought twice about because they're simply part of our everyday life. I will miss every single thing.

I want to take pictures, write things down, and save the memories I can. But I also just simply be there, experiencing these moments instead of worrying about whether I'll remember then. Because not every memory needs a photograph. Some of them can live quietly in my heart.

The Mom I Am Today

Motherhood has changed me in so many ways. I find myself noticing moments I might have rushed past before. I think about time, and how quickly life changes, and about how much meaning can be found in an ordinary day.

Being Elliott's mom has given me a new perspective on so many things. It has made me more aware of how precious these early months are and how much I want to be present for them. I know I'll continue to grow alongside him. I'll learn new things, make mistakes, find my own way through motherhood, and become a different version of myself with every new stage.

But I hope that no matter how much changes, I never lose the part of me that notices the little things. The part that pauses to appreciate a smile, finds joy in an ordinary afternoon, and understands that these moments are worth cherishing even while living them.

I don't want to remember motherhood only through the big milestones. I want to remember what life was actually like while he was little.

These are the details that make this season unique to us.

To my Elliott

I'll never be able to stop time, and I know I won't remember every little detail. But I hope you always know how much I love being your mom. Right now, you're still so little, and I'm getting to watch you grow, discover the world, and become more of yourself every day. I wish I could hold on to these little moments just a little longer, but I'm also so excited for everything that's still to come. No matter how much you grow, you'll always be my boy. And a part of me will always remember these days, my happy little baby, making your sweet sounds, kicking your legs when you're excited, smiling so much, and holding onto my finger when you drink. You make my world more beautiful simply by being in it.

I love you!
