If I Had a Superpower, I'd Be a Healer

Chantal Gaillardetz

If I could wake up tomorrow with a superpower, I wouldn’t hesitate for a second—I’d choose to be a healer. Not the kind of hero who soars through the sky or stops time, but someone who could take away pain, mend hearts, and bring peace to those who need it most.

I’ve always been someone who feels everything deeply. I pick up on the unspoken burdens people carry, the emotions they try to suppress, the weight of experiences they don't share. Even in moments of silence, I recognize the sadness behind a forced smile or the exhaustion in someone’s eyes. And if I had the ability, I wouldn’t just comfort people in their hardest moments—I’d help lighten the weight they carry, the struggles they keep hidden, and the emotions they feel too deeply.

Healing The Heart and Mind

Not every wound leaves a mark, and not all pain is easy to see. Some struggles are carefully hidden behind reassurances like I’m fine or just a little tired. But I see through it—the heaviness in someone’s expression, the hesitation in their words, the loneliness behind their silence.

If I could heal, I would reach into the places no one else can touch. I’d quiet the thoughts that keep people awake at night, soften the voices of doubt that whisper they’re not enough, and replace isolation with warmth. I’d mend hearts bruised by disappointment, rebuild trust where it’s been broken, and remind people that they are never truly alone.

A World in Need of Healing

No matter where you turn, there’s someone battling silent struggles—someone who feels invisible, unheard, or unloved. If I had the ability, I’d step into a room and instantly recognize who needed comfort. I’d place my hands over their heart and lift the burdens they’ve been carrying for far too long. I would remind them of their value, restore their faith in themselves, and guide them toward letting go of what holds them back. Because healing isn’t always about mending what’s broken—it’s about giving someone the strength to move forward.

If I could, I’d make sure no one ever felt alone in their struggles again.

Maybe We’re All Healers in Our Own Way

The truth is, I don’t have superpowers. I can’t take away someone’s pain with a single touch, but I can be there when they need someone to listen. I can’t erase sorrow, but I can remind people that they are valued, that their feelings matter, and that they don’t have to face things alone. Maybe healing doesn’t come from extraordinary abilities. Maybe it’s something we create through empathy, patience, and understanding.

So while I may never be able to heal with my hands, I will always try to do so with my heart. Because sometimes, the most powerful healing comes not from magic, but from the love and care we choose to give to the people around us.

I really love the idea that healing is about being present with, empathizing with and providing support, a listening ear and patience to others rather than taking away or "fixing" their pain.

This truly resonated with me. The idea that healing isn’t about having superpowers but about showing up with empathy, patience, and understanding is such a powerful reminder. So often, we think we need to fix things, but really, the greatest healing comes from simply being present, offering kindness, and reminding others they are not alone. Your words beautifully capture the essence of what it means to support and uplift one another. Thank you for sharing this perspective. It’s a message the world needs more of. ❤️

I think you're right. Love is a healing power. Just feeling loved can break through the walls of burdens and start a magic healing in someone. People need people. With your heart, I expect you are a healer! You do have a superpower! Thank you for touching my life, even in this small way :)
