10 Beauty Hacks For Dry Skin

Oh Winter, the time of year where your skin can become dry, but why does this happen? During the cold months, many climates have lower levels of moisture and humidity in the air. This - along with the fact you're probably spending every day in a room with heating - can lead to lower levels of moisture in your skin. No one enjoys having dry skin. The good news is, there are some easy beauty hacks to help with your dry skin, leaving you feeling wonderful. A few of these hacks includes some items you can find in your pantry.

  1. Turn Down The Temperature in The Shower

Hot water sure is soothing, especially during the cold months of winter, but it can be doing more harm than good to your skin. When you do shower, consider rinsing off in lukewarm water as hot water can strip your skin of moisture. If you rather take a bath than a shower, try to limit the amount of time you spend in the tub.

2. Avoid Soap

Don't get me wrong, soaps are great for removing dirt and germs, but it can also remove the natural oils your skin produces to moisturize itself. During the winter months, you'll want to reduce the amount of soap to a minimum. When you do want to cleanse, try using soap free options. Here's a few ideas:

  • Zelen life cleanser

  • Bioderma foaming gel

  • Boscia clear complexion exfoliating cleanser

3. Mix Foundation Into Your Moisturizer

Let's face it, applying foundation onto your dry face isn't a good idea. If you have dry skin, you're going to want to avoid using powder foundation as this can make your skin look even more dry. Mix a bit of liquid foundation into your moisturizer and apply it onto your skin.

4. Apply Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is completely natural, fairly cheap and easy to find. The oil acts as a moisturizer by filling in the gaps in your dry skin. Apply the coconut oil to your face and/or body, to be left feeling wonderful. You'll be hydrated, glowing and smelling great.

5. Avocado

Avocados contain three fatty acids, anti-oxidants and vitamins A, B, K and E. Smash half an avocado with a teaspoon of olive oil and a teaspoon of honey to save your dry skin. Apply as a mask to your clean face and allow it to set for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, wash off with warm water and be sure to softly pat your face with a towel or face cloth to dry.

6. Add Moisture to The Air

Using a humidifier is something you should definitely look into, especially if you have dry skin. It can help add moisture back into the air.

7. Massage Your Face With a Face Scrub

Face scrubs are amazing and great for all skin types, but if you have dry skin you'll definitely want to use one. Face scrubs are designed to take away any built-up dead skin cells, makeup, dirt and are super beneficial when it comes to clearer, smoother complexions. Go ahead and give it a try!

8. Oil bath

When taking a bath, be sure to try adding a tablespoon of a natural oil of your choice. Rub the oil onto your skin and let the water wash off the excess. The oil will do the magic for you and be sure not to wash it off with harsh soaps afterwards. Here are a few natural oils that are great for repairing your skin:

  • Coconut oil

  • Olive oil

  • Almond oil

  • Avocado oil

9. Oats

An oatmeal face mask may not sound appealing but don't let that overwhelm you. Oatmeal has been used as a treatment for skin conditions for a long time. It contains natural anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which improves skin dryness and roughness. Mix the oats with powdered milk and apply it to your clean face. Allow it to set for 10-20 minutes before washing it off with warm water.

10. Sleep With Silk

Pure silk is anti-absorbent and has been shown to absorb less face cream than standard cotton pillows. Let your skin rest on amazing fabric that nourishes your skins natural oils, rather than taking it all away.
